Torres: UCL Athleti win will mean more than Chelsea’s
Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has termed tonight’s Champions League final as the most important game of his life.
The Spaniard, who has lifted the trophy with Chelsea and also won the World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, says this match with his boyhood club is above every other.
Torres did not have the happiest time at Chelsea after a £50million transfer from Liverpool, despite playing a small part in their 2012 success with a goal against Barcelona in the semi-finals.
The 32-year-old returned to Atletico last season and is yet to win a trophy with the club where he started his career.
‘This is different, this is special,’ Torres said
‘It’s what I wanted when I was a kid, more than I dreamed.
‘Without any doubt it’s the most important, special and lovely game of my life.
‘Anything I can do with the club that gave me the chance to start my career, the team I was a fan of since I was five years old, is different to anything else I’ve won.’
