20 Most Valuable Footballers 2016 in Europe
The list of the 20 Most Valuable Footballers 2016 is an interesting list.According to a study by the CIES Football Observatory, which uses a complicated algorithm to calculate a player’s worth, Harry Kane is both the most valuable player in English football’s top-flight and the fifth highest in Europe’s top five leagues.
Kane is – at €112.5 million, just slightly ahead of Manchester United’s Anthony Martial (€111.8m) in sixth position, Lionel Messi, who is the world most valuable player comes in at €211.1m.
Despite finishing with more assists in Europe than any other player, Mesut Ozil does not even make the top 20.
Seven Premier League players do, however, with Spurs’ Dele Alli (€75.2m) and Ozil’s partner at Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez (€75.8m), both featuring near the top of the leaderboard rankings.
In fact, Ozil is valued at just €48.8m, ranking him joint 33rd in the list, with even team-mate Hector Bellerin (€55.6m) valued higher and only narrowly missing out on a place in the top 20 – no wonder Barcelona are thought to have switched targets!
Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann round off the top five, while any club hoping to land Paul Pogba will have to part with €90.4m in order to land the in-demand Frenchman.
The Football Observatory claims they have an 80 per cent hit rate at correctly estimating players’ values compared to the actual fee received, with factors such as performance, age, contract and international status all factored into their calculations.
Only two players over the age of 30 make the list, Ronaldo and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, while Chelsea were the best represented Premier League club in the top 100 with eight players.
