Mourinho: ‘This is the reason why I benched David De Gea’
Sports Gist: Mourinho reveals the reason why he reserved David De Gea in their Europa League tie with Anderlecht
Sports Gist: Spanish Goalkeeper David De Gea has been left out of Mourinho squad two consecutive times.
David De Gea was absent from the squad that won 3:0 at the Stadium of Light last week.
The Spanish goalkeeper was left out again from Mourinho squad in their Thursday’s Europa League game against Anderlecht.
But rumours has it that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reserving the spaniard ahead of their clash with rivals Chelsea.
In a press conference Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho said:
‘Sergio is playing virtually every match in the Europa League and he deserves this continuity. The fact he played against Sunderland is good for him,’ Mourinho said ahead of the tie in Belgium.
‘We have two very good goalkeepers and we have two young keepers behind them both so we are fine.’
‘That special feeling [about the Europa League] is because it’s the only competition we can win.
‘No chance to win Premier League. This competition is where we show our motivations and ambitions with seven other teams. To win it we need to beat three teams and Anderlecht is the first battle.
‘I’m trying to share with the players this positive feeling.
‘We’ve played 10 matches to be here, we’ve travelled all round Europe to be here.’
